Vanish mode makes messages disappear after they are seen and you leave the chat. If you turned it on by accident, here is how to turn it off.
Turn off vanish mode
- Swipe up again in the chat and release, or
- Tap Turn off vanish mode at the top of the chat.
The background will return to normal.
Turn it on
Open a chat and swipe up from the bottom, then release.
What happens in vanish mode
- Messages disappear after they are seen and the chat is closed.
- If someone takes a screenshot, you are notified.
- It works only in one-to-one chats where both people follow each other or have chatted before.
Is it fully private?
Messages can still be photographed with another device, so do not share sensitive information.

Update the app, check if your account type supports it, and make sure message settings allow it.
