Seeing “User not found” when you search for someone can mean several things.
Possible reasons
- They changed their username. Search their name instead.
- They deactivated their account. It will come back if they reactivate.
- They deleted their account. It is gone permanently.
- They blocked you. You will not find them in search.
- Their account was suspended or removed by Instagram for breaking rules.
- A temporary glitch. Try again later.
How to check if you are blocked
- Search from a different account or a browser while logged out.
- If the profile appears there but not on your account, you are probably blocked.
- Old DMs may show their name without a profile picture.

What to do
- If blocked, respect their choice.
- If it is a username change, ask a mutual friend for the new handle.
- If it is a glitch, update or reinstall the app.
