TikTok’s repost button lets you share someone else’s video with your followers without duplicating it. Here is how it works and how it compares with sharing on Instagram.
How the TikTok repost button works
- Tap the Share arrow on a video.
- Tap Repost.
- Optionally add a short comment.
The video appears in your friends’ and followers’ For You feeds with a label saying you reposted it. It does not appear on your profile grid, and you can undo it from the same share menu.
Who sees reposts
Mainly people who follow you and people you follow back. It is a way to recommend content, not to claim it as yours.
Sharing TikTok videos on Instagram
You cannot “repost” a TikTok directly on Instagram. Options:
- Share the TikTok link in an Instagram story with a link sticker.
- If it is your own TikTok, download it and upload as a Reel. Remove the watermark first because Instagram may limit reach for watermarked videos. See how to remove the TikTok watermark.
- For someone else’s video, ask permission and credit them clearly.
Best practice for cross-posting
- Re-edit the first second for Instagram’s audience.
- Use Instagram-friendly captions and hashtags.
- Use trending Instagram audio where possible.
