Instagram Not Working? Common Causes and Fixes

When Instagram stops working, the fix is usually simple. Work through these steps in order.

1. Check if Instagram is down

If many people are having issues at the same time, it is an outage. Search “Instagram down” on X or check an outage tracker, then wait.

2. Check your internet

Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Try opening another app.

3. Restart the app and phone

Close Instagram completely and reopen it. Restart your phone if needed.

4. Update the app
