Comments disappear on Instagram for different reasons. Here is what you can and cannot do about them.
Why comments get deleted
- The commenter deleted it themselves.
- The post owner removed it.
- Instagram’s filters hid it as spam or offensive.
- Your Hidden Words settings filtered it.
- The commenter’s account was deactivated or deleted.
Can you see deleted comments?
Instagram does not offer a way to view comments that were deleted by the commenter or the post owner. Third-party apps claiming to show them are unreliable and often unsafe, so avoid giving them your login.
See your own comment history
- Go to your profile and tap the menu.
- Tap Your activity → Interactions → Comments.
- Sort by newest or oldest and filter by date.
This shows comments you have written that still exist.
Check hidden comments on your posts
If you think comments are missing on your own post, open the post, scroll to the end of the comments and tap View hidden comments. You can unhide any that were filtered by mistake.
Recover recently deleted posts (not comments)
Deleted posts, Reels and stories go to Recently deleted for 30 days. Go to Your activity → Recently deleted to restore them.
Managing comments better
- Turn on Hidden Words to filter abuse automatically.
- Pin your best comments.
- Restrict trolls instead of blocking them. Read Restrict vs Block.
- Reply quickly to keep healthy conversations going.
